Jean Marcellino

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:

Surely it’s an act of wizardry that occurs when a solid, three-dimensional form appears convincingly on a two-dimensional plane. This is my pursuit. In my work I explore the contact between the lights and the darks, often by drawing works of sculpture, with the constant reminder that “the magic is in the mid-tones.” Similarly, in painting, my pursuit remains the same, with the additional exploration of the contact between the warms and the cools. It’s a never-ending challenge, but always gratifying when the illusion seems to work.
